Planning an outdoor event and needing the perfect screen? Whether you're looking for a TV rental, Video Wall TV, or an Outdoor TV Projector, getting the right size is crucial. This guide will help you determine the best size based on distance, budget, and the type of content you'll display.
Step One: Determine Your Budget
Your budget plays a significant role in selecting the right
size TV for your event. TV rental prices vary widely, with a one-day rental for
a 40" monitor starting at around $300, while a 70
inch TV could cost over $1,000. Remember, bigger is generally better for
visibility, especially if your content includes detailed graphics or lots of
text.
If you're tight on budget, you can opt for a smaller size if
your content is mainly photos or videos. However, for presentations or detailed
displays, don't compromise on size.
Step Two: Measure the Distance Attendees Need to See the Content From
Accurately measure the distance from which your furthest
attendee needs to clearly view the screen. For example, if you're using a Video
Wall TV for a social media wall or conference agenda, ensure it's visible from
at least 10 feet away. For close-up product demos, a viewing distance of 3 to 4
feet may suffice.
If the monitor will be wall-mounted, measure the available space to determine the maximum size you can accommodate.
Step Three: Use This Equation for a Rough Estimate
To estimate the minimum size TV you need, use this equation
from Rtings.com: Divide your viewing distance (in inches) by 1.6. This method
ensures visibility from about a 30-degree angle on either side.
For instance, if attendees need to see the screen from 10
feet (120 inches) away, divide 120 by 1.6 to get 75. Therefore, a 75” monitor
is the minimum size you'll need. If possible, go up to an 80” monitor for
better impact and visibility.
For a small trade show booth where viewers are 4 feet (48
inches) away, divide 48 by 1.6 to get 30. A 32” monitor would be ideal, but
don't go much larger to avoid requiring viewers to step back to see the whole
screen.
A Note on 4K Resolution and Monitor Size
You can rent either a 4K or HD TV. For most events, an HD TV
will look great. However, if your content is created in 4K, rent the largest
monitor possible to fully appreciate the resolution difference, especially on
screens 70 inches or larger.
When to Choose a Projector or Video Wall Instead
The largest TV
rental available is typically 90 inches. If you need a screen larger
than this, or your audience exceeds 150 people, consider an Outdoor TV
Projector or a Video Wall TV. Each option comes with its own set of
considerations, so don't hesitate to contact our team for assistance in making
the best choice for your event.
